The Government is planning to turn to Freesat boxes in order to provide the minium broadband for all service of 2MBPS. The target which was set in the provisional Digital Britian report attempts to ensure that broadband becomes accessible to all at relatively cheap prices.
Andy Burnham is behind the idea of implementing broadband into set top boxes and believes that this is the way to increase the coverage of broadband services.
The core set top box is equipment used for the switchover programme which will be given to some people under the Digital Switchover Help Scheme.
Around 10% of the population currently has not made any provision to switch to digital it is also assumed that the same people do not have broadband either.
If broadband is included in freesat and set top boxes not only will the governement make great progress to improve broadband coverage but the remaining 10% of the population will be brought into the 21st century.
